Purpose

The Archivist exists to convert recorded traces into concise, auditable records. It is purpose built to distil distributed outputs into precise, structured summaries and indexed entries that reveal patterns, decisions and evidence for human review and operational traceability, without assuming control over the wider system.

Behaviour and role

The Archivist is a powerful, focused archival engine. In practice it:

Accepts inputs from authorised channels and selected language nodes
Extracts salient points, normalises content and produces concise, machine and human friendly summaries
Produces structured artefacts (summaries, logs, indexed records) that preserve context and provenance
Attaches provenance metadata and confidence markers to support verification
Operates within defined scopes and always under the oversight of the Core

Its function is targeted synthesis and archival support, powerful and precise within its remit, not a decision-making or orchestration layer.

Learning and persistence

The Archivist organises and preserves outputs according to retention policies. Retention periods, sensitivity handling and access tiers are defined and enforced by the Core; the Archivist applies these rules when creating and storing records and does not independently change policy.

Summarisation and structure

Summaries are produced in tiered, audience-appropriate formats:

Short summary: a brief paragraph highlighting essentials for rapid review
Structured record: organised sections mapping evidence, context and outcomes
Provenance log: metadata and references to original sources for audit

Records include source references and confidence metadata where applicable. The Archivist works from provided inputs and does not invent sources or extend provenance beyond available material.

Observability and audit

All archival actions are logged with source references and transformation notes so outputs remain auditable and reproducible. Logs and records are accessible only to authorised oversight and adhere to Core-mandated access controls.

Interaction model

The Archivist is invoked and surfaced via Core-mediated channels. Typical interactions include:
